2018 Chevrolet Silverado Performance Concept
There has always been a big push to have the hottest, fastest sports car concept at the car shows. This has been a driving factor since cars were invented. In fact, the old joke among gearheads is that the first car race in history happened 5 minutes after the second car was built. The need for speed goes back to the very beginning, and it continues to this day. Back in the early days, trucks were for work and cars were for speed. Well, in recent years, pickup trucks have changed a lot.
Decades ago, pickup trucks were created purely to be utilitarian work horses. Trucks did not even come with “luxury” options like power windows, air conditioning, automatic transmissions, or leather seats. They had lots of torque, were geared for hauling trailers, and generally were not very comfortable. Fast forward to today, when pickups are frequently the family car, especially here in Texas. As a result, many manufacturers are trying to make the pickup truck into an all-purpose ride, offering luxury, performance, room for 4 adults, and hauling capability – all in one package. The truck we are covering today fits into that category. We covered the most expensive truck ever made, so now lets look at a different take on the modern pickup.
Performance Concept – It Offers What It Promises!
The Chevy Silverado half ton has been a mainstay among trucks for years, but this year the folks at Chevrolet decided to step up their game. The Silverado Performance Concept is not your average pickup truck. This truck features a variety of options you might find expect to find on a Camaro! This concept starts with a 5.3 Liter V8, which is already a healthy engine. They add to that an LT4 based intercooled supercharger, which is based loosely on the Camaro ZL1 supercharger. Next, this truck has a cold air induction system to give that supercharger a breath of fresh air.
To help all that spent gas exit the engine, the truck was given a performance exhaust system. This means the buyer no longer needs to stop at the muffler shop on the way home from the dealership! These upgrades gives the truck a respectable 450+ horsepower. All that added horsepower required a brake upgrade, so the Silverado Performance Concept has red 6 piston Brembo calipers up front. This package should allow this truck to run from 0 – 60 in a VERY respectable 5.9 seconds, and stop on a dime!
Power And Good Looks
All that added power needs a good looking truck to go along with it. The already good looking Silverado started at the ground level by adding 22 inch performance rims with low profile tires. A custom hood, air ducts, and front air dam further distinguish the truck, to let everyone know this truck means business. The body is painted in a special color called Enhanced Satin Steel Gray and given some custom graphics. The grille surrounds and bumpers are painted body color, and rounding out the appearance package are factory smoked headlight and taillight lenses. This really gives this truck that monotone look that is so popular. You will notice in the photos that all the Bowtie logos are black – this is by design, to further distinguish this truck from the others.
Inside, the buyer of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado Performance Concept gets a black suede wrapped steering wheel with red stripe and black bowtie emblem and carbon fiber Z71 gauges. There is also a rear underseat storage organizer and all weather floor mats to round out the package. Undoubtedly, this truck will have all the other luxury options expected in a loaded out truck, although there was no other mention of the additional feature packages offered. Historically there have been other attempts to make a performance truck, such as the SS 454 of the 1990s, but they were always single cab. There is no word as to whether this truck will have any other cab configurations offered aside from the 4 door you see here. Addtionally, no data has been provided as to whether the Z71 option package, 4 wheel drive, or other options may be available.
This sounds like a truck that will offer what many people want – good performance, good looks, and a lot of additional features that many people install aftermarket. As of the time this post was written, there is no word yet as to whether this truck will ever be production, or what the pricing will be. If this one ever does go into production, it is safe to say it will be one that will sell out quickly, so get your order in early!
