1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Big Block
1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
Fellow gearheads, today I am going to cover an absolute monster of a car. This isn’t your regular 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS – this is a fire-breathing, snorting, ground rumbling monster that wants to be unleashed. This is a hot rod Chevelle with a monster big block and a bone to pick at the track.
Monster Big Block
Do any of you remember the show “Home Improvement” from the 1990s? If so, you may remember Tim and his characteristic “ugh ugh ugh” grunt when he saw something with lots of power. This is the same way he would greet this bad boy 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. This SS came with a factory 396 CID engine, which is impressive enough. However, the current owner found the 396 engine was long gone, and no longer numbers matching, so the owner opted to replace it with…..get this…..a 572 CID crate engine with aluminum heads.
FIVE HUNDRED SEVENTY TWO cubic inches of tire shredding power is under this hood! This engine is naturally aspirated and still produces 621 hp and 645 lb ft of torque! Ugh uhh aahhh haaa!
Built For Performance
That 572 CID big block is certainly impressive, however it has lots of go-fast goodies attached to make it even better. It has aluminum heads, an aluminum Chevy performance intake, and a Holley 4 barrel on top. It also dumps exhaust through a set of headers that exit from Flowmaster exhaust.
I bet this thing can rattle windows when it starts up! It has the tried and true 700R4 four-speed transmission behind it, and a 12 bolt 3.73 POSI out back to make sure the power gets to those tires. This baby is built to get you down the road in a hurry, and make quite a sound when doing so! I would imagine the owner probably doesn’t boast much about gas mileage, although who buys a car like this for miles per gallon? This car is made for Smiles per gallon, which it must have plenty!
Beauty And A Beast
The interior and paint are also just as amazing as the drivetrain. The bright red 60s interior looks fantastic under that black paint, and the heater and aftermarket A/C make for a comfortable ride down the highway. The mag wheels look vintage, yet the total package makes the car look both vintage and super cool at the same time. This car has lots of detailed and upgraded parts, and is truly a winner in the sense of being a combination of form and function. I don’t know of any gearhead that would walk away from this beauty!
1967 Chevelle SS Monster
Well friends, this has been a quick but interesting diversion from our usual. We typically cover restored muscle cars, but this bad boy was too good to pass up. I hope you enjoyed this big block Chevelle, and I hope you will comment down below to let me know if you like these retro-mod cars.

That is one sweet beast! Like the Dart (my ’72 Swinger), these late ’60s Chevelle’s were so sleek and clean. Personally I like thus body better than the ’70 onward, although I know I am in the minority there. Thanks for the great post and the detailed photos. Now I have spring fever.
Thanks Tim! I also like this era body style, and the color combo and rims really make it for me.
